Shopping for the Best Audio Speakers

Selecting the best audio speakers for your home entertainment center can be a challenge due to an almost endless variety of speaker types and sizes. A typical home audio system can be dedicated to a home theater or simply a high end audio system.  If building an audio system to compliment your home video experience, you might go with a 5.1 or 7.1 system.  A typical surround sound speaker system will be composed of four or six small full-range speakers with a powered subwoofer and center channel speaker.  The satellite speakers can range from small pod style speakers to standard bookshelf and floor standing speakers.  The bass normally would be from a powered subwoofer.

A complete surround sound speaker system will provide the theater type experience of having the movie sound track almost surround you as the name implies.  This is great if you are an avid movie watcher but many times the installation of this type of setup can be a challenge when attempting to accommodate the typical home’s furnishings.  This is one reason that many homeowners are dedicating a single room to the home theater experience.  In this case the decor is dedicated completely to the theater which becomes the primary use of the room.

Unfortunately, most of us must compromise.  A good compromise is using small modular type satellite speakers for surround sound.  These smaller cube style speakers might be as small as three or four inches.  Many rooms can easily accommodate a pair of high end audio speakers such as tower or even bookshelf speakers for the front channels of your entertainment center.  The tower speakers produce the full range of sound from your favorite movies as well as the most popular music.  While the smaller satellite speakers are easily hid, they provide the surround sound.

A good subwoofer will still be needed to provide the bass and sub-bass frequencies that the smaller speakers simply can’t handle.  Finish your system with a center channel speaker for dialogue and you have a killer sound system.  With a little effort, you can build a great sounding home system with a brand like JBL audio speakers.  You will have a good sounding entertainment center keyed for home theater viewing, great audio or both with little effort by shopping on the web.
