The Grates - Blow Up: Metro

The Grates again, this time with my new camera. They played to a sold out London Metro (I overheard someone saying that they were at 150% of capacity) and it was very crowded in there. When you're in a tiny venue you can only hope that people will be at least a little bit considerate of the crap conditions and not turn into jerkholes. Pity that a few people thought moshing and shoving would be a good fun idea. I spent most of the gig with some jerk dry humping my back. Either way The Grates were fantastic as usual, they just need a bigger venue.

I was shooting again with the new camera, it's brilliant so far and I managed to take a few decent photos despite being shoved in the back almost every time I brought my camera to my eye (reminding). All in all it was a fun night, and some jerk behind me went home with an elbow sized bruise in his sternum.

Yes, fantastic gig. First Grates gig I've been to, and I'm sure it won't be the last. They played most of the tracks from Gravity Won't Get You High, and everyone in there seemed to know all the tracks.

Highlight of the night was meeting the band before hand, and having my photo taken with Patience the Koala was fab!

Lowlight of the night was the numpties directly behind us that wanted to turn the place in to a giant mosh pit. Could rant on for ages about them, but don't want to detract from the fantastic performance by the band.

Well, all I can say is that we were they to enjoy the gig and as the 'numpty' and 'jerk' who was jumping around: firstly sorry that you might have gotten knocked about a bit; secondly, chill the f*ck out! People go to gigs to enjoy themselves and I think you'll find that half the crowd were jumping around, not just me. Anyways, glad you enjoyed the gig - your pictures are really good.

Cheers. There's dancing at a gig and then there's jumping around, shoving, elbowing and hitting people. When a venue is that crowded AND that small it's a bit dangerous to go jumping around like that. That's why the bouncer stopped you a couple of times.

I'm glad you had fun though, The Grates are a fun band.

I'm glad that they have finally toured so that the rest of the world can see how fantastic they are! It's definately one of Australia's best best kept secret for a while. I guess I'll happily share them... *sigh*

I have piccies of them at their Enmore Theatre, Sydney gig on flickr.
